‘pilot’ I guess?
Salve,
My name’s Gianluca for those that stumbled across this organically and my goal with this is to jot down stories, feelings and experiences I’ve encountered in the first months of starting my company. I don’t expect anyone to read this, rather want to use it as an online diary, however you’re more than welcome to tag along :)
Today marks exactly two months since opening my food van ‘Via Gianlu’, my life hasn’t been the same since. It’s funny to sit back now and work realising only a few short months ago the position I’m in now was something I was dreaming about. Before this, I was running a catering business, side hustling on some weekends for friends, family, schools and some events.
Working essentially seven days a week (two still at my part-time job) is what I like to call organised chaos. Previously I was financially stable and didn’t have much to worry about, since sacrificing 70% of my weekly pay and constantly juggling arising issues that business owners face day to day, the discipline needed to balance everything has been interesting, to say the least. Studying business for five years only really warns you about these things, but nothing can really prepare you, something you kind of just have to jump in to head on and put out the spot fires as they come up.
My favourite saying in recent months has become “fuck it, I’ll figure it out.” Say yes and figure out how later. It’s much more productive I find than ‘imagined troubles’. For me anyway
Feel free to follow along as I post here weekly, I hope everyone can get something out of this. I’m fortunate enough to have a wide range of mentors and family, all in different fields who have helped immensely and have much more experience than me, this is my way of paying it forward.
My advice to anyone wanting to start something as big as their own business or something of that nature, is to just go for it, what’s the worst that can happen? No one really knows what they're doing until they’re actually living it. It does take a lot mental strength and no one but yourself sees the behind-the-scenes, it can be challenging and pretty lonely at times, but everyone figures it out in their own way. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
Stick around to ride the bumps with me.
